  2. THE YOUTH-Roosevelt had had 3 other brothers and sisters.-He was born in 1858.-He grew up in new York. -He attended Harvard college in 1876. -Graduates Harvard in 1880. -studies law school in oct 1980.

  3. Theodore's beginning • His father died from stomach cancer Feb. 9 1878. • Joins the republican party in 1880 • Published the book THE NAVAL WAR OF 1812 in 1882. • In 1882-1884 served in the new York assembly.

  4. Starting a family • In 1882 joined the national guard • Est. two cattle ranches • 1884 had a daughter Alice Lee Roosevelt.

  5. The bad times • TR's mother Martha Bulloch Roosevelt dies of typhoid fever; hours later, in the same house on 57th Street, TR's wife Alice Hathaway Lee Roosevelt also dies from brights disease - a chronic kidney infection which had been masked by her pregnancy.

  6. Trying to make office • In 1885 Publishes Hunting Trips of a Ranchman. • Abram S. Hewitt, the son-in-law of Peter Cooper defeats TR as Republican candidate for mayor. of New York City. Hewitt's New York City home would later become the Cooper-Hewitt Museum.

  7. THE ROUGH RIDERS In 1898 Joins the rough riders. The Rough Riders land at Montauk, Long Island, to begin a six-week quarantine.

  8. AS THE PRESIDENT Elected Governor of New York In 1900. Elected vice president.

  9. BEING PRESIDENT The youngest man ever to be president at age 42. The 26 president of the united states. JFK was the youngest to be elected at age 43.

  10. Awarded Nobel peace prize for ending Russo-Japanese War in 1905. first American to win Nobel Prize in any of the six categories. received award while in Europe in
