  2. WHAT IS THE 3-4-5? • It is a process that most people in the construction industry use to check for “square”. • It is a simple form of the Pythagorean Theorem

HOW DO YOU USE THE IT? • From the corner of a square or rectangle you measure in both directions. • One direction you measure three feet and make a small, accurate mark. • The other direction you measure four feet and make another small mark. • Now measure the distance between the two marks you made. If it is square, it will read exactly five feet.

  4. WHAT CAN YOU USE IT FOR? • It can be used to make sure a deck you are building is square to the house. • If you are pouring concrete and need to make sure the forms are right you can use this formula. • You can even check existing work for errors.

  5. WHAT IF I GET 3-4-5 1/2? • If the last measurement you make(the five foot one) is not right, you can adjust it by moving the wall (or whatever) until the five foot mark is reached.
