  1. Glance Traceability XML XML XML Federal University of Rio de Janeiro Web System for Equipment Traceability and Radiation Monitoring for the ATLAS Experiment : adding and removing zones from Introduction The running of the Large Hadron Collider exposes the ATLAS detector to radiation. Therefore, CERN shall follow specific regulation from French and Swiss authorities for equipment removal, transport, repair, and disposal. During the operation, maintenance, and dismantling periods of the ATLAS Experiment, the traceability of all detector equipment must be guaranteed for logistic and safety matters. The system described has been developed to track location, monitor radiation, and store property data of thousands of equipment within the detector facilities. Background is automatically set Generating a new ID Procedure for equipment removal Glance Traceability ATLAS cavern Track location Radioactive waste zone Print Label Measure dose Equipment insertion Track location Conventional waste Zone Print Label Measure dose WORKHOPS/TEST AREAS/WASTE • Radioctive waste zone: includes material which was calculated to be radioactive after 10 years of LHC operation at nominal luminosity and 2 years of cooling • Conventional waste zone: separated in two sub-zoning: • - conventional non radioactive zone : no radioactive material should be in this zone • - operational zone: where the material can potentially result to be radioactive after ten years of running at nominal luminosity and two years of cooling If a person, the responsible must be registered at CERN Oracle databases Glance Retrieval Tool Equipment search Radiation measure Java applets Architeture If the equipment doesn’t have a label, a new meaningful ID can be generated It is possible to search for equipment IDs and/or its locaton Radiation control of equipment is performed using a radiation monitor connected to the system. If the dose measure exceeds the background, an alert message is displayed. History for location traceability and radiation measurements are displayed on the interface. ATLASlocation3D Barcode Reader Labels printing ATLASlocation3D • Allows radioprotection experts and systems users to associate equipment parts to functional positions inside the ATLAS cavern • Offers a schematic view of the ATLAS detector, identifying the nuclear zone, and splitting the sub-detectors. A three dimension view of the detector is also provided for the location choice. The ID can be enteredthrougha barcode reader that reads the label sticked to the equipment. When created, the part is associated to an ATLAS system, a type of equipment related to that system, and a responsible. Glance Retrieval Tool The Glance Traceability system is based on a Glance API developed in C++ that makes possible to retrieve data from heterogeneous data repositories. The API provides the data queried in a XML description, that is parsed and interpreted by the system. Tracking the location Measuring dose, modifying data and printing labels View of HS/HO levels and racks Glance Traceability Selecting zones outside the ATLAS facilities New Equipment Registered! Interface / Peripherals Multiple equipment management The label printer and the radiation monitor communication is achieved through java applets. Another value-added-service is ATLASlocation3D, a GUI in java / java3D, which synthesizes a 3D view of ATLAS starting from geometry data stored in the database. Schematic views of the detector Managing locationsthe list 3D view Small wheel The System The value of the local radiation background gets stored using the radiation monitor. The threshold used for the equipment dose is one and a half the average of the background value during the measuring time. Only radioprotection experts are allowed to access this functionality. Setting the radiation background • Actors • The ATLAS equipment management inside and outside the cavern is handled by people with different roles in the experiment, which are managed by specifics privileges on the system and they are listed below: • Radioprotection Expert - person trained to handle radioactive parts and nuclear waste. • Material Responsible - has the responsibility to ensure the correct handling of his material • Workshop/Institute Manager - in charge of the equipment management in its workshop or institute • ATLAS systems user – responsible for equipment in the conventional non radioactive zone of a specific sub-detector, or general infrastructure and services. Online search for available boards in creates 3D view of a Larg Barrel Conclusion • Software fully operational • Adapted to the LHCb experiment • Next steps • Integrate with the CERN ISRAM waste database • Manage storage of equipment/tooling in specific area workshop/buffer zone. Storage of radioctive equipment should also be foreseen.
