  1. Liposuction – Before, During and After the Surgery Liposuction is a cosmetic surgery that breaks up and sucks fat from some parts of the body like abdomen, thighs, neck, buttocks, chin, calves, back, and upper and back of the arms. A hollow instrument, cannula, is inserted under the skin and through a powerful, high- pressure vacuum the fat is sucked through the cannula. Liposuction is the most common cosmetic surgery in the United States where over 400,000 liposuction surgeries are carried out each year. Before the surgery, the patient has to have a thorough consultation with the dermatologist. Complete medical history will be taken by the doctor. The patient has to inform about every medical condition including past surgeries, medications being used, any allergies, of any related information has to be conveyed to the dermatologist. The potential patient should also inform about the intake of any vitamins or herbal supplements or if he or she is going through any other alternative treatment. Based on these information, some tests may be conducted and further evaluate the conditions of the person who wish to have the surgery. When all the conditions are met, the person will be given a green signal for the liposuction surgery. Liposuction can be performed in a medical office. The area where liposuction has to be performed will be duly marked by the dermatologist. Next, a sedative is given, the area is cleansed and local anesthesia will be administered. When anesthesia becomes effective, the area becomes swollen and hard. It is now ready for the surgery. Now, several small incisions will be made and small tube called cannula is used to suck out the fat. During this time, the patient will keep receiving certain directions. Once this procedure is over, the area is dressed with absorbent pads and a compression garment. No stitches will be required since the incisions will be small and the skin seals in a day. This procedure takes about three hours. After liposuction, the patient may feel groggy and experience some discomfort. He or she would need someone to drive back home. Before leaving, the patient will be given all the necessary instructions to ensure the best results of the surgery and to reduce risks of any side effects. The instructions will include how to take care of the treated area and how to keep changing the absorbent pads, etc. The instructions have to be followed carefully to avoid any undesirable happenings. Ideal Candidates for Liposuction People want to undergo liposuction cosmetic surgery to correct body contour and to improve the shape. In this surgical procedure, the fat that is deposited under the skin is removed by a special method. This corrects the bulges in the body that are the result of fat accumulation on different parts. The more visible parts where fat is accumulated and that disfigures the body are thighs, belly, arms, hips, neck, etc. Even those who are on a controlled diet have fat deposits up to some extent. There can be many reasons for this fat accumulation like body-chemistry, unhealthy eating habits, lack of physical activities, and genetic factors play a role as well. Both men and women can have the surgery performed to correct their body shape. Men usually go for ‘love handles’ correction, while for women, thighs, belly and buttocks are the

A thorough examination by a physician is essential to determine the fitness level of a person. With a clear understanding of the surgery and the results, a person can undergo the surgical procedure if all the conditions favor. Many conditions are there that have to be in favor for people to be considered ideal candidates for liposuction surgery. First, the health should be good, the weight should not be much in excess, there shouldn’t be any previous surgical history, the person should not be suffering from any serious diseases like diabetes, lung or heart complications, or circulatory disorders. Moreover, person’s age and skin condition also matter a lot while determining the fitness level for liposuction. The person also should be fully aware of the results of the surgery. Many conditions are to be met for a person to become fit for this surgical procedure. If you are considering having liposuction surgery performed, you should first get in touch with a physician to determine whether the conditions of liposuction surgery are fully met in your case or you have some obstacles. You should also understand that liposuction is not a weight loss technique nor it is a obesity remedy. In fact, no overweight or obese people can undergo this surgery. Liposuction is good for improving shape of selected body areas only, and it is in no way a weight loss technique.
