IMMANUEL…God With Us Isaiah 7:11-14 11 "Ask a sign for yourself from the LORD your God; ask it either in the depth or in the height above." 12 But Ahaz said, "I will not ask, nor will I test the LORD!" 13 Then he said, "Hear now, O house of David! Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will you weary my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

  3. Isaiah 7:11-14 11 "Ask a sign for yourself from the LORD your God; ask it either in the depth or in the height above." 12 But Ahaz said, "I will not ask, nor will I test the LORD!" 13 Then he said, "Hear now, O house of David! Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will you weary my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

  4. Isaiah 7:11-14 PROPHECY TO AHAZ “Sign” = virgin to bear a son IMMANUEL “God With Us” ????? (Isa 7+) JESUS (Mt 1:1-23)

  6. Jesus: Not Just Messenger…God Shares Himself

  7. Jesus: Not Just Messenger…God Shares Himself • John 1:1: the “Word” (logos) = vehicle of concept of God. • Hebrews 1:3: express image of God, brightness of His glory. • Colossians 1:15: image of invisible God. • John 1:18: Son declares unseen Father. • John 8:18: If had known Me would also know My father. • John 12:45: He who sees Me sees Him who sent Me.

  8. Jesus: Not Just Messenger…God Shares Himself John 14:6-9 6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. 7 "If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him." 8 Philip said to Him, "Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us." 9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

  9. Jesus: Not Just Messenger…God Shares Himself • IMPLICATIONS • Regardless of men’s claims, God desires man to understand and know His character, qualities, power, and wisdom! Look at Jesus, look at God! • GOD took OUR burdens upon HIMSELF – not as mere manager, but as Father coming to His children’s side!

  10. The Journey Of The Divine To His Creation

  11. The Journey Of The Divine To His Creation John 3:13 No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.

  12. The Journey Of The Divine To His Creation John 6 33 For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.“ 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 41 The Jews then complained about Him, because He said, "I am the bread which came down from heaven.“

  13. The Journey Of The Divine To His Creation John 6 50 This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.“ 58 This is the bread which came down from heaven —not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever."

  14. The Journey Of The Divine To His Creation Philippians 2:5-8 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

  15. The Journey Of The Divine To His Creation • IMPLICATIONS • The only answer to our trouble was GOD’S OWN APPEARANCE among us! • A servant God saw NO barriers to His taking OUR burdens upon HIMSELF!

  16. God On OUR Side

  17. God On OUR Side Psalm 8 1 O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! 3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, 4 What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? 5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

  18. God On OUR Side Romans 8:31-39 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us

  19. God On OUR Side Romans 8:31-39 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: "FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE KILLED ALL DAY LONG; WE ARE ACCOUNTED AS SHEEP FOR THE SLAUGHTER." 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us

  20. God On OUR Side Romans 8:31-39 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  21. God On OUR Side • IMPLICATIONS • Definition of self and existence based upon God’s great love. • Certain spiritual VICTORY, SUCCESS, and LIFE for us. For who can defeat God?

  22. IMMANUEL God With Us • God came to us! He wants you in His family. He wants to bless you. You wants to give you life! • What greater motivation to come to God do you need? There is selfish desire…but then there is IMMANUEL!
