EDUCATION THRIVES IN KURDISTAN DESPITE BEING A WAR ZONE • Kurdistan Region, located in North of Iraq, is a multi-national, multi cultural, and multi political party with a language spoken in 5 dialects. • Kurdistan region has committed itself to build a democratic system in the heart of the Middle East www.ukh.edu.krd

EDUCATION THRIVES IN KURDISTAN DESPITE BEING A WAR ZONE • Since 2003 war, Iraq has been a heaven for terrorists yet, the KRG thrived in establishing a functional government • Economy was flourishing from 2003-2014 until Islamic state of Iraq and Levant known as ISIS attacked Iraq after Syria. • Kurdistan Region with a small army and almost no ammunition fought bravely to protect its region and later on fought on behalf of the world. www.ukh.edu.krd

Believes in promoting democracy by strengthening education and building human capacity • Since 2003 KRG has tried to connect to the western world and be part of globalization • Both public and privet universities in Kurdistan are paying a very special attention to education in general. • Having educational programs that complies with international standard. www.ukh.edu.krd

Education • Providing high quality learning opportunities, research, enterprise and community engagements that are strongly linked to the needs and requirements of Kurdistan and the wider region • Comprehensible teaching and learning strategy observed • Effective steps are taking place for international accreditation for educational system in general (universities in particular). www.ukh.edu.krd

EDUCATION THRIVES IN KURDISTAN • Despite all what happened imagine none of our universities closed • None of our hospitals refused to take injured people from all over Iraq. • ISIS was killing and committing atrocities but KRG, with its people was standing strong by Peshmergas and internally and internationally displaced people. • Giving more than 1700 peshmerga martyrs yet, the land and its’s people are safe above all the difficulties. www.ukh.edu.krd

EDUCATION THRIVES IN KURDISTAN • Imagine a land of 5 million people accepted 2.5 million refugees, provided them with food, shelter and EDUCATION • Many of those refugees are enrolled in schools and universities • Refugee camps have their own schools so no child stays behind. • Our university and many other charity organizations are helping in educating those children, UKH included www.ukh.edu.krd

EDUCATION THRIVES IN KURDISTAN • Displaced students from other cities of Iraq have been accepted at their stage in universities and schools as per KRG decision without questioning their race, religion and ethnicity. • Hundreds of displaced lecturers and professors have been accepted and started working and lecturing at Kurdistan’s universities with no obstacles and difficulties, as well as hundreds of physicians, and many other professions www.ukh.edu.krd

  10. UNIVERSITY OF KURDISTAN HEWLER The University of Kurdistan Hewlêr is the only public university in Kurdistan Region that is fully designed on an international Educational System and the language of communication is English. www.ukh.edu.krd

Students are equally offered internship and placement in all programs to educate and train a competent graduate; • SPE Chapter is International Society of Petroleum Engineering, running and offering free membership for our students; • BSc in Civil Engineering is a dual degree between UKH and Lebanese-American university in Lebanon. www.ukh.edu.krd

  28. Why UKH? • As a result we have not expanded drastically , our university has remained small concentrating on quality and specific programs of need. Thus we have a small number of students. • We are in communication with several universities including; Leyster, Hull, Sussex and Birmingham, and all our communications include cooperation at all levels, including exchange programs, joint PhD supervision, joint research projects, academic exchange as well as student exchange program. www.ukh.edu.krd
