  1. Immigrant Interview Article Topic: how does migration affect the lives of people and the character of places?

  2. 1: What is your name and the name of your native country. My name is Moses Sr. Seide. I come from a small Caribbean island called Haiti down south.

  3. 2: At what age did you emigrate from your native country? When I emigrated from Haiti, I was only just turning 18. I heard that America was the best place to go.

  4. 3: What push factors drove you to emigrate your native country? My family was being persecuted for political reasons, and they didn’t give me enough money to support my family. At the time, Haiti didn’t have the education I was looking for.

  5. 4:What pull factors drove you to immigrate to the United States? Since my family was being persecuted, it wasn’t very safe in Haiti. I came to the U.S. as a refugee seeking for safety, but it was also an opportunity for me to go to law school and get a better salary to send remittances to my family.

  6. 5: How has your migration affected you and the U.S.? Moving to the United States has changed my life in many ways. It gave me safety, life opportunities, jobs, and better salary. I’ve brought the knowledge I had from my native country, all my talent and experience, and our holidays and culture.

  7. 6: What was your profession in your native country? In Haiti, there weren’t many high paying jobs that teenagers could have. I worked as a farmer for some time, but that didn’t give high payment.

  8. 7: What is your profession in the United States? I work as a Cab driver here in the U.S. Its not exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted go to law school to become a lawyer, and I even saved up all my money and it was just enough. But instead, I used it to bring my siblings here so they could get a better education.

  9. 8: What kind of challenges have you faced since entering the United States? Since moving to the U.S., I have had to pay: taxes, Child care, Health care,etc. I have to work very hard in order to support my family.With hard work comes great responsibility. There are still many challenges to come.

  10. 9: What has been the best part of immigrating to the U.S.? The best part of immigrating to America is that it changed my quality of life in a good way. I get to raise my family safely with just enough money. Life in the United States may not flow so easily with no challenges, but its still worth it!
