  1. Mrs. Gesenhues’ News Week of 9/9/13 • Reminders • Big Top Raffle Ticket money can be turned into the cafeteria each morning. They will then give your child 10 additional tickets if they want to sell more. If you want more than 10 tickets please send a note saying how many you want. • We are continuing to collect items for our grade level silent auction basket. First grade is in charge of a “cooking” basket! Feel free to send in favorite utensils, cookbooks, recipes, favorite ingredients, pans, or be creative and we will collect them here in our classroom. • If you have not already completed the chaperone training for the district please make plans to attend one of these meetings if you intend to volunteer in our classroom. • September 8th @10am HMS Media Center • September 27th @2pm WES Gym • September 30th @7pm HMS Media Center • If you did not receive an email from me I wanted to let you know that Friday afternoon we finished a book by the well known author Judy Blume called Freckle Juice.  We read this book to encourage a discussion on how everyone is different and that is ok (freckles or no freckles)! We also decided to “tweet” the author and she responded! I am excited to share this with your child. She gave us book recommendations for future reading! If you have a chance check out “The Pain and the Great One” by Judy Blume. • We will be taking an assessment in class this week called the CogAT. I have included the website below if you are interested in learning more about this test. Please make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep this week and eats a good breakfast! http://www.riversidepublishing.com/products/cogAT7/research.html Dates 9/17/13 Kentucky Kids Day 9/18/13 First Quart Mid-Term 9/21/13 Big Top Movie Night and Dinner @6:00 9/22/13 Big Top Festival @12:00 9/26/13 Market Day Pick-Up 10/7/13 Picture Day Ringmaster of our big top The “Ringmaster” in our classroom each week will also fill the role of “line leader.” They will get to share all about themselves on Monday morning with their “All About Me” poster and we will all fill their bucket that day as well. When you get the poster on Friday please fill it out over the weekend and send it in Monday.
