  1. Research/Analysis into influential genre examples of Teen Rom-Com films.

  2. In a way our film “Love Magnet” can be related to the 2006 film “John Tucker Must Die”, where the “romance” part of the storyline is not just between two people as its usually seen in movies in this case three more girls are involved which then adds the comedy factor to the storyline. Although the John Tucker Must Die film changes the some of the usual conventions of the teen rom-com films such as the romance between two characters it still has elements of typical iconography factors that can be found in this genre such as the main male role is the typical “good looking popular jock, who happens to be a bit of a player”. What we then want to change for our film is play around with these conventions, so we wanted the main male character to be an “average guy in school” if possible maybe even make him look a bit “geeky” but for some reason he still happens to attract different types of girls except the one that he actually likes (a girl magnet for the wrong reasons). This “change” or “less typical” approach to teen rom-com will hopefully add the comedy in our film as well as making it the unique selling point of the film.

  3. Lately a lot of successful teen rom-coms use sexual oriented themes to add comedic factors, and these can be seen in John Tucker Must Die. Theme can be seen throughout the trailer, showing various scenes. http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi4256104729/ The cast members themselves are fairly attractive which also adds to the usual ideology and how everyone needs to be attractive, which sometimes causes pressure for teenagers in the real world especially young girls who start to have eating disorders.

  4. Another successful film is “A Cinderella Story” where they take the original and famous “Cinderella” storyline and make it appeal to a much more modern audience. By changing certain aspects of it (using real people rather than a cartoon) but still keeping the main things that made this film a success( glass heel) This film concentrates more on the romantic side which makes it more appealing to the teen girls unlike “John Tucker Must Die” which would appeal a little bit more to the teenager boys.

  5. The comedic factors in this film come in through the struggles that the character of Cinderella has to go through as well as the making the antagonistic characters (the step sisters) a bit over the top. By exaggerating these characters and the things they do, are ways to add comedy to the scenes. As the audience sometimes we can tell that they make it look over the top on purpose but these are the things that work well when it comes down to comedy.
