  1. CCA Science Olympiad 2013-2014 Welcome!

  2. Introduction

  3. Background • 23 Events • 15 members per team • 2 partners compete in each event • Each student will likely compete in 2-4 events

  4. History of CCA Science Olympiad • CCA SO is in its 7th year • Placed 1st in the regional competition for 4 consecutive years • Placed 2nd in the state competition for the last 2 years

  5. Objectives • To encourage the exploration of science beyond the classroom in multiple disciplines • To continue and advance on our team’s past success • To enjoy ourselves while doing so!

  6. Competition Dates

  7. Regional Competition • When: Saturday, February 22, 2014 • Where: University City High School 6949 Genesee Ave, San Diego, CA 92122

  8. State Competition • When: Saturday, April 5, 2014 • Where: Canyon High School 220 South Imperial Highway, Anaheim, CA 92807

  9. National Competition • When: Friday and Saturday, May 16-17, 2014 • Where: University of Central Florida Orlando, Florida

  12. Registration • Online registration • Please fill out the form at: http://ccasoteam.com/content/registration-form-0 • Turn in permission form at lunch meetings

  13. Keys to Success • Be a responsible team player • Attend weekly meetings for each event • Generally 1 hour for study events, 1.5 hours for building events • Coaches will take attendance at each practice • It will be a factor in forming the state team • Potentially prepare outside of meetings • Be present at competition day!

  14. Regional Team Selection • Selection is based on event selections and meeting times • Certain events have course requirements • Based on past experience and individual achievement

  15. The State Team Selection • Top 10 students are objectively selected based on performance at the regional competition • The remaining 5 are selected based on additional factors such as event needs, attendance, etc.

  16. Parent Volunteering • Parent support is vital to our success! • Parents can volunteer in the following areas: • Coaching • Event proctoring on the day of the competition • Volunteering during Monday lunch meetings • Food coordination and other competition day help • Sign up through registration form • Contact ccasoclub2014@gmail.com

  19. Donations • We recommend an $80 contribution to cover the following: • Team Registration Fees • Event Materials • Food at competitions • T-shirts • Coach appreciation • Year-end Party • Make checks payable to CCA SO 2014

  20. School Meetings • Every other week on Monday during Lunch • Shakeri’s classroom – Room D204 • First Meeting: Monday, September 30, 2013
