  2. Verb • A verb is a word that expresses action or state of being and you need this to make a sentence! • An Action Verb tells what someone or something does… • Some express Physical Action…to write, to swim, to climb • Some express Mental Action…to think, to guess, to consider

  3. Transitive Verb • Is an action verb that is followed by a word or words that answer the question WHAT? OR WHOM? • The dancer performed the most difficult movements. • (The action verb performed is followed by the noun movements, …which answers the question WHAT?)

  4. Intransitive Verb • An action verb that IS NOT followed by words that answer the question What? Or Whom? • The dancer performed gracefully. • (The action verb performed is followed by a word that tells how…NOT WHAT OR WHOM?)

  5. Questions… • Smith followed the recipe carefully. • Kathleen Battle, the opera star, sings amazingly well. • The red ants fought the black ants. • My sister plays rugby every Sunday.
