  2. History The Forbidden City was used as the palace for the emperors of China from the Ming to the Qing dynasty which was about 500 years.

  3. Stats The Forbidden City is 7,747,200 square feet and has 9,999 rooms because nine is thought the be a lucky number in Chinese.

  4. Building the City It took about 14 years to construct the monstrous city from 1407-1420. More then 200,000 workers were used during the construction of the Forbidden City.

  5. Namesake From beginning of construction in 1407 to 1911 emperors lived in the city. Until 1925 when the imperial age ended in China the common people were never allowed within the palace thus the Forbidden City.

  6. As you can see in this picture the buildings are prominently red and yellow because they are lucky colors in China.
