  2. What is an Armadillo? • An armadillo is a mammal and it is an omnivore meaning that it eats plants AND meat. The average size of an armadillo is 13cm – 150cm. Armadillos are closely related to anteaters and sloths, and they generally have a pointy or shovel-shaped snout and small eyes.

  3. Where do they live… • Armadillos live in warm temperate and habitats, including rain forests, grasslands, and semi-deserts. The cold is their enemy and can kill them easily.

  4. The Big Question… • Are Armadillos endangered? • Many species of the armadillo are endangered. This is because many humans are killing armadillos for getting rid of them as pests. Also, they are used to dig and find food. There are nine species of armadillo and we do not know if they are endangered or threatened because slash and burn farming and hunting.

  5. What Is Being Done To Save Them? To save the giant armadillo, the Endangered Species Act has been put in place to change the trading of armadillos. This will protect the animals from being killed since there are ready market for their products.

  6. Did You Know… They sleep 16-18 hours a day! The armadillo is the only mammal covered with a hard shell. They have poor eyesight but great sense of smell to help them to hunt for their prey!
