  2. 1964 – Marking 300 Years of People, Purpose, Progress In the three and a half centuries that followed, New Jersey continually played a significant role in the shaping of American life and culture. The first comprehensive, statewide commemoration of the state anniversary took place fifty years ago.

  3. “By involving well over a million people in one phase or another of its activities the Tercentenary gave them an opportunity to see themselves within the flow of human history and to gain some measure of participation in public affairs. It may be said that the Tercentenary enlarged not only the people’s perception of their history, but the democratic process itself.” Paul Troast, chairman
