  1. Awards / Ribbons

  2. CAP Unit Citation Award Awarded to units forexceptionally meritorious service or exceptionally outstanding achievement which clearly sets that unit above and apart from similar units.

  3. Command Service Awarded to senior members who have served at least 1 year continuous service as a unit commander.

  4. CAP Commander’s Commendation Outstanding duty performance where achievements and services are clearly and unmistakably exceptional when compared to similar achievements and service of members of like rank and responsibility.

  5. CAP Recruiter Ribbon Awarded by the unit commander to senior members in recognition of outstanding efforts to recruit new members for CAP. Awarded to senior members who recruit seven new qualified cadets or senior members for CAP.

  6. CAP Service Ribbon Awarded at the end of 2 years (senior member in good standing). (1) First Bronze Clasp. Awarded at the end of 3 additional years (total of 5 years). (2) Additional Bronze Clasps. One additional bronze clasp will be awarded for each additional 5 Years service.

  7. CAP Counterdrug Ribbon Awarded to senior members for participation in 10 counterdrug sorties.

  8. Cadet Orientation Flight Ribbon Awarded to members who provide 50 cadet orientation flights. Each cadet receiving credit for a flight may be counted toward the total of 50.

  9. Flight Operations and Emergency Services

  10. CAP Command Pilot Ratings 1) Meet CAP senior pilot requirements. 2) Have been an active CAP pilot or senior pilot for at least 5 years. 3) Have a minimum of 2,000 hours pilot time logged in accordance with FARs.

  11. CAP Senior Pilot Ratings 1) Meet CAP pilot rating requirements. 2) Have been an active CAP-rated pilot for at least 3 years. 3) Have a minimum of 1,000 hours pilot time logged in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).

  12. CAP ES Observer Ratings Mission observer in accordance with CAP 60-series regulations or Graduate from the CAP National Mission Aircrew School Observer Track or equivalent program as determined by NHQ CAP/DO and certified by the school/activity director.

  13. CAP ES Senior Observer Ratings 1) Meet CAP observer requirements. 2) Have been an active flying CAP mission observer for 3 years. 3) Have a minimum of 100 hours certified flying time as CAP mission observer. NOTE: Observer flight time and sorties should be logged in the same manner as pilots are required in the FARs (use of a pilot logbook or similar system is encouraged).

  14. Air Search and Rescue Ribbon Participate actively in at least 10 search and rescue sorties. A bronze clasp is awarded for each additional 10 sorties. All sorties must be in support of an actual search and rescue mission authorized by competent authority.

  15. SAR “Find” Ribbon Awarded by the wing commander to any CAP member of the wing making a find (distress or nondistress) on a search and rescue mission.

  16. Disaster Relief Awarded for participation in five actual/evaluated disaster relief missions and completion of two Disaster Services related training course requirements.

  17. Emergency Service Patch Current and qualified in accordance with CAPR 60-3, CAP Emergency Services Training and Operational Missions as a general emergency services member with one additional specialty qualification.

  18. Aerospace Education and Professional Development

  19. Scott A. Crossfield Award Awarded by National Headquarters to members who have earned the masterlevel rating in the aerospace education specialty track and served as aerospace education officer.

  20. General “Chuck” Yeager Aerospace Achievement Award Awarded for successful completion of the Aerospace Education Program for Senior Members (AEPSM).

  21. Grover Loening Aerospace Award Successfully complete Level III training requirements.

  22. General Benjamin O Davis Leadership Award Successfully complete technician rating in a training specialty track. (1) Bronze Star Attachment - Successfully complete senior rating in a training specialty. (2) Silver Star Attachment - Successfully complete master rating in a training specialty.

  23. CAP Membership Award Successfully complete Level I CAP Orientation Course.

  24. CAP Officer Appointments 1) Duty Performance/Exemplary Performance of Duty 2) Special Appointments. In consideration of appointment to certain key positions in CAP, special educational qualifications, or previous CAP or military experience, certain senior members are eligible for initial appointment or promotion to a grade commensurate with their position or experience. 3) Mission Related Skills. In recognition of certain special skills and qualifications earned outside CAP, but which are directly related to the CAP mission, certain senior members are eligible for initial appointment and subsequent promotion to officer grades commensurate with their special skills. 4) Professional Appointments. Chaplains, medical personnel, legal officers, financial officer and professional educators serving as aerospace education officers are eligible for initial appointment and subsequent promotion under the provisions.

  25. Promotion to • Senior Member to Second Lieutenant • 6 Months time in grade (TIG) as Senior Member. • Complete CAP Level I Training.

  26. Promotion to • Second Lieutenant to First Lieutenant • 12 Months time in grade (TIG) as Second Lieutenant (or Technical Flight Officer). • Obtain Technical Rating in a CAP Specialty Track.

  27. Promotion to • First Lieutenant to Captain • 18 Months time in grade (TIG) as First Lieutenant (or Senior Flight Officer). • Complete Level II Training • Squadron Leadership School (SLS) • Technical Rating in Specialty Track • Complete AFIADL 13/CAP Senior Officer Correspondence Course

  28. Promotion to • Captain to Major • 3 yearstimein grade (TIG) as Captain • Complete Level III Training (Loening Award) • 1 Year in Command or Staff Assignment • Corporate Learning Course (CLC) • Senior Rating in Specialty Track • Attend Two National, Regional or Wing Conferences

  29. Promotion to • Major to Lieutenant Colonel • 4 yearstime in grade (TIG) as Major • Complete Level IV (Paul Garber Award) • 2 Year in Command or Staff Assignment • Regional Staff College or Equivalent • Master Rating in Specialty Track • Serve as Staff Member for SLS, CLS or UCC or at National, Regional or Wing Conference • Public Presentation on CAP or complete Yeager Award

Important Note • Unlike the U.S. military, CAP members share responsibility for ensuring they are recognized. • If you meet award criteria, let us know • CAPR 39-3: “The individual member is responsible for preparing and submitting to the unit commander CAP Form 2A when the requirements for an activity or service ribbon have been completed.”

  33. What to Do Next • If you receive approved CAP Forms • Make a copy and keep it. • Place the original in your PDK Personnel File. • Note award on the “Pink” CAPF 46 in your Personnel File. • CAPWatch Online will be updated later. • If you receive a ribbon or badge associated and already have it please return it to Squadron inventory.
