Assignment Reminder Part 1 of your assignment is due next Monday. 500 word essay on rocketry in science fiction • Describe how rocketry and space exploration existed in science fiction before man explored space in the 1960’s. • Discuss whether the ideas of rocketry or space exploration presented in the comic, novel or movie from question one are already, or are likely to become part of our lives.

  4. Travel To Mars There are literally hundreds of sci-fi books, movies, and comics that exist on travelling to Mars. Why is Mars a common theme in Sci-fi? DC Comics, Martian Manhunter (1955) Doom, (2005) Total Recall, Arnold Schwarzenegger (1990)

  5. Travel To Mars • Closest planet to earth • There are signs that the atmosphere was once similar to ours • May contain life (Martians)

  6. Life on Mars • Lots of red rocks and dust which contain iron • Frozen poles, canyons, volcanoes • Dust storms • Freezing

  7. Travelling to Mars How long would it take to get to Mars? Someone will land on Mars within your lifetime.

  8. Mars Activity • Google: M2K4 and select ‘Flash Feature • Start at the ‘Why Mars’ tab and work right • Answer the questions on the worksheet
