  1. Psalm 47 The Vacuum

  2. Harrison Ford “I always thought that those things I wanted for so long, the things I worked so hard for, would be satisfying. But that is not the case. I feel now, more than ever, that something is missing. It seems that I have everything --- yet there must be something out there.”

  3. What is he missing? Ecclesiastes 1:1-3 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. 2 Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity.3 What does man gain by all the toil at which he toils under the sun?

  4. A Proper Fear Psalm 47:1,2 Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy! 2 For the Lord, the Most High, is to be feared, a great king over all the earth.

  5. What is the “Fear of the Lord?” Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate. Proverbs 9:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.

  6. What does The Fear of the Lord Equip us to do? Proverbs 16:6 By steadfast love and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the Lord one turns away from evil.

  7. What are the two main results of the “Fear of the Lord”? Proverbs 14:26 In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge. Proverbs 19:23 The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.

  8. Evaluating a Quote “The fear of the Lord is driven by love , respect, and awe for God to such a degree that we desperately do not want to dishonor Him with our conduct. It is, essentially, a healthy fear of letting God down — not so much in failing according to the law but failing according to love.”

  9. Why such Love? Psalm 47:3,4 He subdued peoples under us, and nations under our feet. 4 He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves. Selah

  10. The Vacuum Filled Hebrews 13:5b,6 …be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.6 So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”

  11. So… Where is our Mistake? The whole sermon --- up to this point --- has been focused on…. Man rather than God and therefore…. Has equipped us to be idolaters

  12. The Wrong Focus…. Made Right Psalm 47:5-7 God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.6 Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises!7 For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm!

  13. He is Exalted! Psalm 47:8,9 God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.9 The princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; he is highly exalted!

  14. The Big Idea “The fear of the Lord is driven by love , respect, and awe for God to such a degree that we desperately do not want to dishonor Him with our conduct. It is, essentially, a healthy fear of letting God down — not so much in failing according to the law but failing according to love.”
