  5. Transportation and Absences • Transportation changes should be made through Marek’s front office as well as your child’s homeroom teacher. • Please don’t make changes past 2:30 p.m. • We LOVE notes! Please send a note regarding your child’s absence, tardy or dismissal from school before 3:10 – a doctor’s note is required if your child was out sick.

  6. Homework • Homework is reinforcement of skills learned in class. To help your child do his/her best with homework: • Choose a good time and place to do homework that suits your family’s schedule • Allow your child to come up with his/her own responses • Make sure your child is doing his/her homework with support (not given the answers) • Homework is notoptional. Every student is expected to turn in completed homework each Friday morning. • Homework is used to ensure that students are retaining the information they learn during the school day. • Please let your child do the assigned work for each night. Don’t allow your child to do his/her homework all in one night, even if he/she is able to do so. • By signing the homework, you are confirming that all homework is complete and correct. • Email your child’s teacher if you have any questions about the assigned homework. .

  7. Things To Do To Help At Home • Please work on Fine Motor Skills: • Fine Motor Skills help in holding and using writing tools like pencils and crayons.  Holding and cutting with scissors.  Tying shoes, fastening buttons and zipping zippers. Daily practice is best to ensure children will have adequate motor control when they are writing.   • Many times when a child starts kindergarten, this skill is overlooked.  Kindergarten is so fast paced now a days that students are required to have these skills mastered. • At home, there are many things that you can do to help.

We only have 10 minutes for snack time. Some ideas of healthy and quick snacks are: • Granola Bar • Grapes, Berries • Squeezable yogurt or applesauce (no spoon needed) • Chex Mix • Cheese stick • Please make sure your child has at least one book in his/her backpack each morning.
