Thursday 11/10:The Hitler Youth • Objective: Summarize how Hitler gained and maintained power in Germany using ‘indoctrination’ • Bell Work: Answer 1 of the following questions: • How did Hitler get into a position of power? • How did Hitler use his intelligence to his advantage? • How did Hitler use force to maintain his power?

  2. Indoctrination • Indoctrination: Getting people to believe in a set of ideas • Hitler took great trouble to make sure that young people were loyal to him and to the Nazi Party.

  3. Hitler placed such importance on the young people because they were the future of his Nazi policies. • He wanted to make children believe in the superiority of the Aryan, the ‘master race’. • He wanted young men to value the ideas of discipline, sacrifice and obedience. • The most important was Hitler himself-the Fuhrer. • All young Germans were taught to see him as a father figure who should be given unquestioned loyalty from his people.

  5. Education for Death • Education for Death: The Making of the Nazi is an animated short film produced by Walt Disney and released on January 15, 1943. • The film features the story of Little Hans, a German boy born and raised in Nazi Germany, who is educated to become a merciless soldier.

  6. The Hitler Youth • Government of Nazi Germany wanted children to share the military mood and master-race philosophy of the Nazi Party
