  1. The Cardiovascular/Circulatory System

    What makes you tick???
  2. Words to knowEnter these in your notes. Cardio: heart Vascular: blood vessel Cardiovascular system: a collection of organs that transport blood throughout the body Artery: a blood vessel that carries blood AWAY from the heart. Vein: a vessel that carries blood TO the heart Capillary: a tiny blood vessel that allows an exchange between blood and cells in other tissue
  3. What is this system? Cardiovascular system: This system transports blood through the body. Also called Circulatory System. Made up of: heart, arteries, capillaries, veins and blood. Arteries, capillaries and veins are called blood vessels. Functions: Helps maintain homeostasis by carrying nutrients to your cells and removing wastes from your cells and carrying hormones throughout the body.
  4. Have a Heart!! The heart is made mostly of cardiac tissue. Size of your fist. Left side and right side Right side pumps blood with little oxygen (oxygen-poor) to the lungs to get oxygen Left side pumps oxygen rich blood to the body to give oxygen to the cells in the body. As the blood passes the body cells it gives oxygen to the cells and takes away the waste. It goes back to the heart to be pumped to the lungs to get more oxygen.
  5. Path of blood movement through the body. Heart Lungs Heart Body
  6. Write each question and answer in your notes. 1. What are 3 ways the cardiovascular system helps maintain homeostasis? 2. What type of tissue makes up the heart? 3. What does the left side of the heart do? 4. What enters the blood when it is pumped to the lungs? 5. What do we call arteries, capillaries and veins? 6. When the blood leaves the heart to travel through the body, what does it do?
  7. Blood 4 components of Blood Plasma (includes red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets Red blood cells White blood cells Platelets
  8. Jobs of Blood Provides cells with oxygen and nutrients Regulates body temp.
