  2. What is restraint? The act of keeping someone or something under control

  3. What Restraints are prohibited? Chemical Restraints Mechanical Restraints Prone Restraints

  4. When Can I use restraint? Physical Restraint may be used if: The student exhibits behavior that causes imminent danger to himself/herself The student exhibits behaviors that cause imminent danger to others

  5. THERE ARE NO OPTIONS for SECLUSION!

  6. How do I inform my teachers about The restraint policy? There will also be a training module sent via email from Denise Boutwell by Friday to be shown during pre-planning. (it runs on an Adobe file) You are getting a copy of the policy today to share with teachers Information can be found on the main page under Board of Education - dropdown “policies”

  7. Do I need to send a student letter home at the beginning of the Year? No: The information has been included in the Student Handbook. It can be found under the student services section of the handbook.

  8. What are the procedures if restraint is required? Documenting: Debrief: Contact parent by phone and notify them that a restraint was used. (recommended) An incident report is to be completed and submitted to the principal or designee as soon as practical following EACH INCIDENT of restraint. (required) Written notification (copy of incident report) sent home to the parent within a reasonable time not to exceed one (1) school day for EACH INCIDENT of restraint. (required) Documentation of restraint is entered into the database by principal or designee Who? Teacher involved in the restraint Additional teacher/administrator trained in Mindset Witness to the restraint What? Review the incident report Review the BIP Schedule a meeting to revise BIP if needed If no BIP refer to Behavior Intervention Team for guidance on completing an FBA Attach restraint documentation Submit to principal or designee

  9. Where can I find the incident report? It is located in IC Select Student Information >General. Search for a student. Select the Student. Select the Documents tab. Under Create a New Form; select Restraint. (it cannot be saved there but it is in template form)

  10. Where do I FIND the Database? Located in IC Documentation required: Enter each event in the behavior tab Use event code `10-01 Do NOT enter a resolution

  11. Mindset Training Recertification: Initials Pre-planning Scheduled by cluster Information available from your Special Ed. Coordinator or SEST Minimum of 5 hours of instruction annually If they are not recertified during preplanning they will be dropped off to an inactive list. If participants were initially certified after June 2010 they do not have to go back through initial training. Questions regarding certification can be directed to Denise Boutwell Limited participation Recommendations given to Denise Boutwell by Special Ed. Coordinator If you have recommendations see your coordinator It will not be posted on PD Express It is a full 2 day training Initials that occurred prior to June 2010 must go back through initial training.
