  2. introduction Listening is the ability to understand what others say and why they have to said it. Listening is an active proccess of understanding the text by activating various kinds of knowledge, such as background knowledge (knowledge of the content), grammatical (knowledge of the language), phonological knowledge (knowledge of sounds) and knowledge based on learners experience.

  3. THE IMPORTANCE OF LISTENING • „ Language learning depends on Listening. • Speaking does not constitute communication by itself unless what is said is comprehended by another person. • „ Listening is used far more than any other single language skill in normal daily life

  4. how to help student to improve their listening • Watch English-language television and films • Listening to English music • Dictation activities

  5. LISTENING MATERIAL The material is very important for the students to improve their listening skill. A suitable material can make the students want to learn. The material which suitable with the students have to interesting, in the right level of students’ difficulty, and presented in various activities. The interesting materials that are familiar meaningful and various should be provided for the students. It can help them to understand more easily. Beside of that, the material should be as natural as possible in order that students can practice and imitate the original voice from the speakers.

DIFFICULTIES IN LISTENING TEXT • the students do not have the text in front of them to look at if they do not understand the information • difficult to keep up with the speakers in the tape recording because they have no idea of what the speaker says. • not familiar with the pronunciation of certain words or the accent and intonation of the native English speaker. • have no control over the speed of what they are hearing and they cannot go back or rewind to listen again

  7. UNDERSTANDING A LISTENING TEXT • Giving student clear instruction • Familiarizing student with the accent of the speaker before listening to the whole text
