  24. 2015 Candidates Next-Gen deduplication New Storage pool delivers significant scale, efficiency and ease of use improvements • Protected via replication, not storage pool backup • Replicate at node level or entire pool • Eliminates reclamation process • Inline Target Dedupe TSM Server • Massive increase in scale • Optimized for TSM server to server replication 24

  25. TSM for Virtual Environments - Current File-Level Recovery for End-User 2015 Candidates Virtual machine with Data Protection for VMware Recovery Agent installed End User uses Windows Explorer to browse data on snapshot and recovers files using drag-and-drop End User uses DP for VMware Recovery Agent to mount backup data so it is visible to her virtual machine • End User has to install software on their virtual machine • TSM Administrative “touch” on a per user basis (not a per usage basis) • Current solution provides a mount interface and not a file-level recovery interface • Current solution is sensitive to vm operating system and volume manager 25

  26. TSM for Virtual Environment “Self Service” File-Level Recovery 2015 Candidates Virtual machine with no additional software installed End User uses web browser to browse data on snapshot and recover files 26

  27. Step 1 – Point Web Browser to TSM Recovery Service To recover files from the TSM backup service, point your web browser to the following address: http://tsm-restore-server.mycompany.com:6000… 2015 Candidates 27

  28. Step 2 – Provide Authentication 2015 Candidates 28

  29. Step 3: End User Portal (Mockup) 2015 Candidates 29

  30. Advantages of self-service portal approach: 2015 Candidates • No installation of additional software • Interface contained within web browser • No TSM Administrative “touch” on a per-user basis • End User provides authentication to their machine, TSM uses this to authorize user to only the backup data for their virtual machine on the TSM server • Interface is a file-level recovery interface • End User can choose a snapshot which is mounted under the covers and then can browse / recover files based on the content of that snapshot • Interface is not sensitive to vm operating system and volume manager • Solution will exploit infrastructure to make the details of the operating system and volume manager transparent to the End User 30

  31. TSM Native Object Storage 2015 Candidates Customer Site Protected VMs TSM Server TSM Native Object Storage leveraging cloud APIs Cloud Object Storage Protected Physical Servers Deduplicated backup data • TSM implement TSM Server I/O operations using specific cloud provider APIs (Amazon S3, Amazon Glacier, OpenStack Swift, Microsoft Azure, CDMI, SofLayer) • Low-cost storage tier (tape replacement) • Copy storage pool and database backup storage in the cloud • TSM server hosted in the cloud with the TSM server writing data to a storage cloud • Migrate older data from on premise storage pool to cloud storage 31

  32. 24_81 2633779_84 2015 Candidates TSM Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) Modernize your data protection strategy - Hybrid DR made simple Cloud based DR as a Service, Enterprise Class Disaster Recovery made easy • TSM DRaaS hosted and managed by IBM - Your quickest path to cloud • Robust & scalable replication targets • Rapid recovery in the event of an outage Hot Standby DR site • Automatic client failover • Provides continuous data protection operations Eliminate tape • Reduce risk and improve efficiency (eliminate tape handling) • Improve RTO (eliminate retrieving tapes from vault)
