  4. What is the Early Years Foundation Stage? • The Early Years Foundation Stage (E.Y.F.S.) is the stage of education for children from birth to the end of the Reception year. • It is based on the recognition that children learn best through play and active learning.

  5. The E.Y.F.S. is based on 4 themes. 1 A Unique Child 2 Positive Relationships 3 Enabling Environments 4 Learning and Development

Three prime areas and four specific. • Communication and Language (Prime area) • Personal, social and emotional Development (Prime area) • Physical Development (Prime area) • Literacy (specific area) • Maths (specific area) • Understanding the World (specific area) • Expressive Arts and Design (specific area)

  7. Planning in the moment • Planning in the moment is all about seizing the moment for children to progress. Based on what the children are already deeply involved in, this way of planning means our skilled practitioners use quality interactions to draw out the children’s knowledge and build on it there and then (in the moment).

  8. Phonics • Phonics is a 20 minute session that is run straight after the morning register giving the children the whole day to consolidate their knowledge practically. • Please take note of how the sounds are pronounced and ensure you practice with your child and their sounds book. • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqhXUW_v-1s

  9. Reading, writing and maths • These are all taught during planning in the moment. • Cursive handwriting (school handwriting). • Each child has their own pigeon hole with everything they will need in. • Practice at home is great but if your child is reluctant please do not push them too hard. We may have other suggestions that will help.

  10. Observations • Will be taken daily. • 2 Build a Profile • Uploaded on a Friday • Star moments

  11. Medical Matters • Any sickness, diarrhoea, must be followed by 48 hours absence. • Any absence requires a telephone call to the office explaining why. • Holidays during term time are not permitted unless there are exceptional circumstances. For guidelines on this please see Mrs Steward our business manager. • Head lice are common! Please check regularly and treat as recommended. • Any medicines can only be administered by prior arrangement with the office.

  12. Other matters… • Please ensure you child brings their book bags every day (with their book and reading record). • Books get changed on Tuesdays and Fridays if you have signed your child’s reading record. • Please be aware that letters from the team about new things (PE days, trips etc) will be in your child’s book bag. • Meet CHAS – he has a diary for your child to complete when he comes to visit. • Please ensure all long hair is tied back.
