The Child Development Service • Part of Child & Adolescent Community Health within Child & Adolescent Health Service • Assessment, early intervention and therapy services to children with, or at risk of developmental disorders and delay. • Approx. 185 FTE employed out of 19 sites across the metropolitan area. • 10 different professions including a range of allied health professionals and paediatricians, along with administrative staff.

Identifying the need • The HRIT review of child development services • Recommendations to support the delivery of high quality, consistent and timely services – a single electronic information system is seen as central to achieving this outcome ‘Data is incomplete and unreliable such that it is impossible to estimate demand or plan service demands accurately’.

Developing CDIS - a clinician driven process • Project management within the policy unit • Defining the data requirements • Consultation and liaison with DoH IT • Analysis of existing local and national products • Tender • DRA contracted • Designing the system – embedding clinical practice • Ongoing support - the CDIS team, developers, DoH IT
