Where did the name Circle of Courage come from? • The idea of a circle of courage came from Native American philosophies. * Belonging * Generosity * Mastery * Independence “ The Circle is a sacred symbol of life…Individual parts within the circle connect with each other; and what happens to one, or what one part does, affects all within the circle.” - Virginia Driving Hawk Sneve

  3. Mission Statement • COCSS is dedicated and committed to providing quality individualized services to clients and their families in our community who have Developmental Disabilities, Mental Illness and Substance Abuse Issues.

  4. Vision Statement • COCSS maintains a commitment to provide quality services with compassion and respect that will enrich a consumer’s quality of life. COC believes in a family centered approach and the strengths-based prospective model. “Meeting Clients and Families Where They Are”

  5. Services • Community Support • Intensive In-Home • Outpatient Therapy • Diagnostic Assessment • Psychiatric Services

  6. Duties • Case Management • Sit In On Intakes • Home Visits • Go Through Training Seminars • Visit the Group Home (Brunswick Co.) • Talk With Therapist To Receive Insight On Clientele and How To Prevent Burnout • Become Educated On The Companies Responsible For Billing and Paperwork

What kind of person will benefit most from this practicum site? • Must: • Be Patient • Have a “go with the flow” kind of attitude • Be flexible • Work well with others • Be willing to discuss and reflect on experiences • Be open to working with people of many different SES backgrounds • Be ready to LEARN • BE ABLE TO SEPARATE YOURSELF FROM THE WORK!!
