Methodology ϕ in the range of (-π/2, +π/2) Actually: (-20mrad, +20mrad) origin CMS Eta5 • Transfer (x,y) to (r,ϕ) coordinates. • The CMS straight & Zigzag radial strips have a fixed angle pitch (~1.3mrad). If the origin is selected as the vertex of this trapezoidal detector, strip position can be expressed in ϕ. • The vertex was not measured when the data was taken, need to find a way to figure it out (optimization). • In the figure above: the starting origin is set at 2127mm to the center of REF2, this point is close to the vertex. • The results are tried out for the 4 ref. detectors. REF 2 X 2127mm

Summary • Tracking in (r,ϕ) plane is implemented for ref. detectors and is consistent with the resolution results as in (x,y) plane. • This means ϕ resolution for radial CMS/EIC with straight/zigzag strips can be studied, and thus resolution in Cartesian coordinates can be estimated. • We are going to implement this study… ϕ distribution on CMS sector 5. Strip pitch: 1.3mrad
