  2. When should a committee be formed?¿Cuándo se debe establecer el comité? • Each school with 21 or more English Learners (ELs) must form an ELAC. • Siempre que haya 21 ó más alumnos en vías de aprender ingles deberá existir un ELAC. EC 62002.5;5 CCR 4312

ELAC’s Legal TasksLas tareas legales del ELAC • The ELAC advises the principal and staff on: • El comité aconseja al director y personal de la escuela sobre: • The ELAC advises the School Site Council (SSC) on the SPSA. • El comité aconseja al SSC de la escuela sobre el plan escolar de aprendizaje “SPSA”. • The ELAC assists the school with: • The school’s needs assessment. • The school’s annual language census (R-30 Report). • Efforts to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance. • El comité ayuda con: • Una encuesta/evaluación de las necesidades de la escuela. • La administración del censo anual de lenguaje • El esfuerzo de la escuela de comunicar a los padres la importancia de la asistencia diaria de sus hijos a la escuela.

What are the characteristics of an effective ELAC?¿Cuáles son las características de un ELAC eficaz? • The committee clearly understands their purpose. • El comité tiene conocimiento claro de su propósito y tareas legales. • The committee consults with the school to plan in advance and meets on a regular basis. • El comité se comunica con la escuela para planear de antemano y reunirse regularmente. • The committee maintains communication with the school principal, staff, and the SSC. • El comité tiene buena comunicación con el director, personal, y SSC.

  5. Consider becoming a memberConsidera haciendose un miembro Chairperson – Presidente • Works with ELAC Advisor to plan agenda. At each meeting, the chairperson welcomes members and introduces visitors. Maintains conversations to tasks on the agenda. • Trabaja con el tutor del comité para planear agendas. Vice Chair – Vice Presidente • Assits the chairperson with the duties above. Substitutes for the chairperson or secretary if he/she is absent. • Ayuda al presidente con las tareas. Secretary – Secretaria • Takes minutes for each meeting and delivers to ELAC advisor for publication • Anota las minutas en cada junta y se las entrega al tutor de ELAC para publicarlas. DELAC Representative – Representante de DELAC • Attends District ELAC (DELAC) meetings, usually once a month, and represents our school. May vote at DELAC. Reports items of interest to school ELAC. • Asista a las juntas de ELAC en el distrito, usualmente una vez por mez, y representa a nuestra escuela. Puede votar en DELAC. Pasa reporte a ELAC.
