  2. What Do We Stand For? • Project Illuminate is an organization designed to bring lighting to sports fields in order to enhance student athletes’ experiences.

  3. Our Mission • To enhance and extend the soccer athletes’ experience on the Morris Hills High School soccer field by the addition of field lights, and will complete this task through discussion, compromise, and perseverance.

  4. Background • Since the construction of the lower soccer field at Morris Hills High School, soccer games had to be cut short due to lack of proper lighting on the lower soccer field at Morris Hills High School. Games cannot be finished, practices cannot take place after 6pm, and both the boys’ and girls’ teams cannot practice on the field on the same day due to lack of time and light. This is why, in order to extend playing time for both practices and games, proper field lighting should be implemented.

  6. Sports That Will Benefit • Soccer • Baseball • Lacrosse

  7. First Year • The first year will consist solely of setting up an underground electric grid in which the field lights will be connected to. This grid will in turn be connected to the main source of electricity that the school is set up on, including the solar panels on the roof of the science wing. During this time, the soccer and baseball teams must compensate by playing on township fields or out-of-town fields for the duration of this project. This year will also include the reseeding of the field, as it will be upended in order to install the grid.

  8. Following Years • Subsequent years will allow the teams to play on the field during construction, as the underground grid has been set up and the lights will be installed off-field. • Also, during these years, the lights themselves will be installed on the perimeter of the lower field.

  9. Conclusion • Overall, this lighting will benefit a total of over three hundred high school student-athletes from both Morris Hills and Morris Knolls who participate in soccer or baseball, in addition to the innumerable athletes who participate in these sports in the surrounding towns as well as out-of-town teams coming in to play local teams.
