Things to know about this presentation... • You will use the same topic on which you prepared your press release. • You will need to include the facts as well as an angle or spin and deflection and damage control. • It will function like an oral essay. • Thesis, body (sqa, sqa, sqa), conclusion

Presentation Outline • Introduction (iintroduce yourself, introduce the “thesis”) • Brief synopsis of the situation • Summary of main spin (Outline the 3 main points) • Main spin • Point 1 + supporting examples + spin • Point 2 + supporting examples + spin • Point 3 + supporting examples + spin • Conclusion (Restate the thesis, summarize the 3 points, offer final idea / suggestion to leave with the audience) • Q&A

Requirements • There is nothing to submit; you are marked on your ability to present orally and handle questions • Final product: 5 minute presentation (3 minute press conference, 2 minutes of questions) • Must utilize some of the persuasive language techniques taught in class • Must be formatted correctly by following the Press Conference Organizer • Must follow guidelines established by the class as to what makes a good oral presentation (eye contact, pacing, being prepared, etc.-see note)

  7. Evaluation • Knowledge: • Have you used several persuasive language techniques? • Have you used both damage control and deflection? • Thinking: • How well do you spin? • How well do you handle questions? • Have you put some thought into what you will say, or are you “winging it”?

  8. Evaluation • Communication: • How well do you present/communicate your ideas? (eye contact, pacing, flow, vocabulary, etc.) • Application: • How well do you follow the proper structure of the press conference (the organizer sheet)? • In terms of the overall “performance” of this task, did you put in considerable effort?
