  1. Mrs. Salvi Agenda for September 12, 2014 Science 7: • Objectives:Students will understand that a mixing ratio is the concentration of a certain substance expressed in parts per million or parts per billion by volume. Students will be able to explain that some substances, such as ozone, have profound effects even when they occur in very small concentrations or mixing ratios. Students will be able to work with exponential notation and unit conversions to express results numerically. • Certain gases such as ozone occur in the atmosphere in very tiny amounts. Parts per million (ppm). Measurements such as parts per million can be expressed in terms of volume or mass. Parts per billion by volume (ppbv), and parts per trillion by volume (pptv). Measurements such as ppmv, ppbv, and pptv are called mixing ratios. • In this activity, students will gain experience with very small amounts of substances using the technique of serial dilution.

  3. Mrs. Salvi Agenda for September 12,2014 Science 5: • Objective: Students will: Discover that ground-level ozone occurs in many areas of the country. Discover that ground-level ozone problems are often associated with high-population centers. • School Flag Program • www.airnow.gov • Student worksheet
