  2. Integer Rules: Adding Integers (Same sign) • Keep the sign • Add • Ex: -3 + (-4) = -7 or 7 + 6 = 13 • Word problem: • Sally went to the store to buy some milk and bread. The bread was $2.00 and the milk was $3.00. How much were the milk and bread together?

Integer Rules: Adding Integers (diff. signs) • Keep sign of the number farthest form 0. • Subtract bigger number from smaller number • Ex: -3 + 5 = 2 or -7 + 4 = -3 • Word Problem: • In the morning, when Marco went to school, it was -10 degrees. At the end of the day, it was 10 degrees. The temperature increased how much between the Morning and the end of the day?

Integer Rules: Subtracting Integers • Change Subtraction sign to an addition sign. • Change the sign of the second number. • Follow the addition rules. • Ex: -3 - (-7) (KCC) -3 + (+7) = 4 • Word Problem: • Little Johnny had 20 Legos, lost 16 Legos when he was playing outside, and his dog ate 2. how many Legos does he have left?

  5. Multiply/Divide Integers • If there are an even number of negative signs, the answer is positive. If there are an odd amount of negative signs, the answer is negative. • Ex: -4 x -7 = 28 or 5 x -8 = -40

  6. Vocab • Algebraic expression- a method of writing an algorithm w/ letters. • Algebraic Equation- a statement that states one expression is equal to another. Always involves an equal sign. • Order of operations- a set of universal rules in order to solve expressions and equations. • Evaluate- to find the value of an algebraic expression.

  7. Vocab Continued… • PEMDAS- a method used for simplifying expressions. • Variable- a symbol used to represent a number. • Opposites- numbers that are the same distance from 0 on the number line, but are in opposite directions. • Absolute Value- A number of units or distance between an integer and 0 • HINT- the word “is” means equal
