Combining Sentences. Sometimes we combine 2 sentences with one word. Sometimes we combine 2 sentences by changing the order of the words. Sometimes we combine 3 sentences into 1 by reordering every word. Exercise A.

  5. Exercise A • Soap kills more germs than antiseptics do. Soap is more widely used than antiseptics. • The boys’ silent glares accused Brian. Brian bowed his head, accepting guilt. • A bicyclist can explore paths and trails. They wouldn’t accommodate a car. • The foundation was a pit. Into the pit had fallen ash, brick, and partially consumed timbers. • Lila Schmidt offered to interview the Chinese college students. Her parents had raised her in Peking.

  6. Exercise B • In the play Julius Caesar, Brutus agrees to join the conspirators. He believes Caesar has become a danger to Rome. • I watched the giraffe. They are regarded as pests in some regions. Pike destroy other game fish.

  10. Exercise D • 4. Picture the children huddled around the open fire in their colonial school. They read from The New England Primer. It was first printed in 1688. • 5. Mr. McFarland is our social studies teacher. He asks us difficult questions. They will make us think logically.
