1. SEWA UBC ....Because, we choose to act What is Sewa UBC? ‘Sewa’ is the Sanskrit word for ‘selfless service’. Sewa UBC was founded by a few students pursuing higher education in UBC about two years ago to reach out to those not presented with same opportunities in life. Our ‘selfless service’ of choice is to support the rural communities to educate children and to provide with other necessities of life. • Our Activities • Since last two years, we have organized several fundraising events • henna tattoo • paan (Indian after-meal snack) • T-shirt design contest and sales. • Some funds have been collected from local temples as well. • We performed an awareness-based play at the Indian day festival. • A free Yoga session have also been organized. • Currently, we are supporting a school (picture below) in a village called ‘kikalveri’, district Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh, India. Our Goal Sewa UBC currently sponsors an organization called "Ekal Vidyalaya - A people's movement" designed to bring among other things basic education to rural part of India. Their philosophy is to have teachers and resources move between villages and provide quality education without high costs. To pursue this lofty goal we have joined forces under the banner of an international non-progit organization, Sewa International.
