  2. My School ofnon-readers • Three hundred students • Five kindergarten classes • Five first grade classes • Four second grade classes • Four mobile labs • One stationary laptop lab • 3 desktop computers in each classroom • SMART boards in every classroom

Brand New Requirement! • In 2013, the elementary teachers and students had to learn and start using a computer log on. • The log on consisted of their initials and birthdate • The password was their 9 digit student ID # • Up to this time all you had to do was press Enter to use a computer in the elementary schools. • It was a BIG adjustment and the TIS’s had to help facilitate it. • I learned some tips in the process…

  4. What Worked? • Use similar log-ins for various programs • Create color coded log-in cards for students (laminate) • Paint all the keyboards with bright fingernail polish • Practice with paper keyboards in the classroom • Help teachers organize their log-ins

  9. Using the Mouse • Paint a blob on the left mouse click button to match the Enter button • Some kindergarteners’ hands are too small to work the big mouse • Teach them to use the laptop touchpad • Use two pointer fingers, one for clicking and one for moving the mouse

  14. Managing usernames and passwords for teachers • Create a Google Document of all your usernames and passwords • Available anywhere • Secure since you must log in to access • Remember one log-in for Webtop to get to your Google docs. • Can’t lose your “password notebook”
