  1. Bobby Moore Bobby Moore was an English footballer. He was born in 1941 and died in 1993.He was captain of West Ham United for more than ten years and was captain of the England team in 1966. 1966 was a special year for football because England won the World Cup. Many people believe he was the greatest defender of all time. He won a total of 108 caps for the England team. A player gets a cap every time they are picked for the England team. When Bobby retired from football in 1973, he had set a world record for the most caps.

  2. The World Cup 1966 Bobby Moore nearly wasn’t the captain for the England team in 1966! He had wanted to leave West Ham and his contract had run out during the Spring of 1966. Luckily, Sir Alf Ramsey, the England Manager, persuaded Bobby to resign so he could captain the team in the World Cup. The final was held on 30th July 1966 at Wembley Stadium in London. England played against West Germany. It was a tense game. However, in the final minutes of play, Bobby Moore passed to Geoff Hurst who scored to create the final score of 4-2.

  3. Famously Funny Seconds before this photograph was taken Bobby Moore wiped his muddy hands on a velvet tablecloth. He didn’t want to get Queen Elizabeth’s hand muddy!
