  1. CELESTIAL BODIES

  2. The term Celestial Body is as expansive as the entire Universe, both known and unknown.

  3. TOPICS • Stars • Planets • Galaxies • Asteroids • Comets • Satellites • Constellations • Interesting Facts

  4. STARS

  5. SUN • It is a huge ball of gases, mainly Hydrogen. • There is a massive nuclear reaction taking place in the sun, converting the Hydrogen gas into Helium gas.

  6. 10 Brightest Stars Sirius Canopus Alpha Centauri Arcturus Vega Capella Rigel Procyon Archernar Betelguese

  7. PLANETS

  8. INNER PLANETS Mercury Venus Earth Mars

  9. OUTER PLANETS Jupiter Saturn Uranus Neptune

  10. DWARF PLANETS Eris Pluto Ceres

  11. GALAXIES

  12. Galaxies are humongous systems of stars and interstellar matter.

  13. MILKY WAY

  14. ASTEROIDS

  15. Asteroids are large pieces of rocks or metal and rocks.

  16. Astronomers have so far recorded the orbits of over 4000 asteroids.

  17. COMETS

  18. They have oval orbits and spend most of their time far away from the Sun.

  19. SATELLITES

  20. The surface of the moon has many craters, which were made by meteorites hitting it.

  21. ARTIFICIAL SATELLITES Scientific experiments, studying stars, galaxies, etc.

  22. SPUTNIK-1 It was sent by the former USSR on 4th Oct, 1957.

  23. CONSTELLATIONS

  24. URSA MAJOR • This group of stars is called the ‘Big Dipper’. • If we join these seven stars with imaginary lines, the figure looks like a Big Ladle.

  25. URSA MINOR One part of this constellation, consisting a group of seven stars is called the ‘Little Dipper’.

  26. CASSIOPEIA A few bright stars of this constellation, make it look like an ‘M’ or a ‘W’.

  27. ORION Prominent stars of this constellation are Betelgeuse and Rigel.

  28. INTERESTING FACTS

  29. PROXIMA CENTAURI 4.22 light years away from the sun

  30. There are 126 known multi-planetary systems (i.e. stars with at least two confirmed planets) beyond our Solar System.

  31. NEW PLANET DISCOVERED Researchers say it is too close to Sun to support life, with a surface temperature estimated at 1200 degree Celsius.
