Four Key Areas • ACHIEVEMENT • NCLB, Ensuring challenging academics, Special Populations • TRANSITION • Aligning secondary/postsecondary, college academic preparation, articulated paths • OCCUPATIONAL PREPARATION • Alignment & support of programs to prepare for occupations In demand with “family supporting wage” • HIGH QUALITY PROGRAMS • Resource investment and monitoring criteria to assure local programs of sufficient size, scope and quality

  4. Ohio Response • Engagement of agency leadership – ODE & OBR • Development of a Revision to the State Plan for Career-Technical Education • Matrix aligned with Ohio’s Policy Advances & Critical Initiatives

  5. Aligning Local Planning • Letter of Intent to Extend Current Performance Plan – June 15th deadline • Plan update – electronically through the CCIP-CTAE grant application process

  6. Key Area -- Achievement • Possible Strategy • Strengthen academic, career & technical skills • Action Steps: • Project – based learning or assessment • Collaborative planning with academic/technical teachers • Curriculum alignment with Academic Content Standards

  7. Key Area -- Transitions • Possible Strategy • Link secondary and postsecondary education • Action Steps: • Development of articulation agreements • Joint planning secondary/postsec faculty • Implement 11-14 pathways; align curriculum

  8. Key Area -- Occupation • Possible Strategy • Provide programs that address all aspects of an industry • Action Steps • Engagement of stakeholders, advisory councils in program development • Teacher externships • Development/support of interagency or economic initiatives

  9. Key Area – High Quality • Possible Strategy • Provide services of sufficient size, scope and quality • Action Steps • Dual/concurrent enrollment; early college designs • Curriculum alignment with economic clusters, industry accreditation • Equipment upgrades to meet industry needs

Perkins Simulation • Plan Construction Checklist • Do the strategies align with the goal, the district’s needs & the legislative requirements? • Do the action steps relate to the four key areas? • Do the actions steps address the required activities in the application? • Do the number of action steps equal or exceed the number of activities checked in the application? • Will resources be appropriately allocated to achieve the planned action steps?

Seven Step Input Process • Review/edit district plan—Establish goals, performance measures, strategies • Review CTAE funding sources –available allocations • Complete grant application page—required and fundable activities • Add fiscal resources to district plan • Complete action steps • Construct program budget • Validate Application/Review Plan
