  2. Simile Definition: using like or as to compare two things Example: He is as dumb as a post.

  3. Metaphor Definition: compare two things without using like or as; something is something else Example: My hair is softer than my fuzzy blanket.

  4. Onomatopoeia Definition: sound word Example: The chickens were clucking when I went in the barn to feed them.

  5. Alliteration Definition: repetition of beginning sound Example: The dog did a dance on the desk!

  6. Personification Definition: giving human qualities to something not human Example: The trees did a dance in the wind as people jogged by them.

  7. Idiom Definition: a well known expression that does not mean what is says Example: I was so thirsty I could have drunk an entire river.
