  8. Introduction Counseling assumes the need for change; on this there is general agreement, regardless of philosophical assumptions.

Introduction • However, there is great diversity around the issues of how to change, where to change, into what to change, why to change, and who is to change. • Problems (according to our culture): Syndroms, addictions, chemical imbalances, repressed memories • Solutions: Self sufficiency, actualization, empowerment, esteem, awareness, mastery, felt needs met.
