  2. Promote NAME within México. Not only to inform several sectors and population in general but also to invite and get more interested people and direct participation, specially from various government levels and academic/scientific sector. Summary. Suggestions and needed activities or else. SWG-5 Meeting UGM Annual meeting November 3-7, 2003 Puerto Vallarta, México

  9. Role of large-scale ocean-atmosphere processes in the evolution of the North American monsoon: diagnostics and modeling • What are the dynamical mechanisms that link the WHWP with the evolution of the North American monsoon? • Intraseasonal to interannual variability of the warm pools and their relationship to the overlying atmosphere. • Determine the role of the intensity and position of the subtropical highs in the evolution of monsoon precipitation. • Determine the structure and evolution of the large-scale moisture transport through numerical modeling. SWG-5 Meeting UGM Annual meeting November 3-7, 2003 Puerto Vallarta, México

  10. Two years of measurements ending summer of 2004. Currents, temperature, salinity and sea level measurements. SILLS: Exchange of Physical and Chemical Properties in the Northern Gulf of California (M. López, M.L. Argote and J. Candela). Objective: Directly measure exchange of mass, heat and salt at the sills that control the entrance of water to the northern gulf of California.

  11. Concurrent meaurements of currents at the sills and sea level across the islands, could allow an efficient method to monitor deep inflow to the NGC, including interannual variability possibly related to El Niño. • Interannual variability of the exchange across the islands and sills could affect surface properties of the NGC such as SST. Two possible mechanisms are: • A reduction of the exchange via an hypothesized blocking effect, could produce warmer and saltier surface waters in the NGC. • A reduction of the exchange could also be due just to reduced warming and/or evaporation of surface waters, and this might me monitored through the deep inflow entering the NGC. • Relate varibility of the exchange across the islands and sills to surface fluxes of heat and water (evaporation) in the NGC.

  12. Air-sea Interaction Spar Buoy Graber et al (JAOT, 2000) High resolution directional wave spectrum Suitable platform for high accuracy mean and flux measurements Sufficiently stable in pitch and roll Deep or coastal waters, moored or freely drifting Direct measurements of air-sea fluxes SWG-5 Meeting UGM Annual meeting November 3-7, 2003 Puerto Vallarta, México
