  1. The Rotary Foundation

  2. The Rotary Foundation Rotary International is NOT The Rotary Foundation

  3. Rotary International(financed by membership dues) • Administrative • Insurance • Magazine • Club Support • Training • Public Relations

  4. The Rotary Foundation(financed by member donations) • Humanitarian • Educational

  5. From the Club Rotary Foundation Committee Manual: • “Through The Rotary Foundation, each Rotarian has the power to change and empower lives. The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to support the efforts of Rotary International in the fulfillment of the Object of Rotary, Rotary’s mission, and the achievement of world understanding and peace.” • Rotary Foundation Programs are funded by voluntary contributions from Rotarians worldwide. Contributions sent to the Foundation can be directed to the Annual Programs Fund, the Permanent Fund, or the PolioPlus Fund. • The Annual Programs Fund is the primary source of support for the programs of The Rotary Foundation.

  6. The Rotary Foundation • Three primary program areas: • Educational Programs • Humanitarian Grants Program • PolioPlus

  7. The Rotary Foundation • Educational Programs • Ambassadorial Scholarships • Rotary Grants for University Teachers • Group Study Exchange (GSE) • Rotary Centers for International Studies in Peace & Conflict Resolution • Rotary Peace and Conflict Studies (Chulalongkorn University)

  8. The Rotary Foundation • Humanitarian Grants Program • Matching Grants • District Simplified Grants • Health, Hunger & Humanity (3-H) Grants • Volunteer Service Grants

  9. The Rotary Foundation PolioPlus

  10. Through these programs The Rotary Foundation saves and changes lives. • Stories and examples can be found on the RI Web site and also in The Rotarian. Recent stories include: • fighting hunger in Romania and Alaska • reducing child mortality by providing improved sanitation in Sri Lanka • working to stop human trafficking of children in Brazil, basic education and literacy in South Africa, eradicating polio worldwide.

  11. Additional projects made possible by The Rotary Foundation • A partnership between clubs in the US and Liberia generated a $60k grant for 8 medical professionals to train over 50 Liberian health workers to combat the spread of AIDS. The grant and training supplied medication that prevents the transmission of HIV from pregnant mothers to their babies. • A Global Grant awarded to a partnership between an American Club and a club in India has helped to fund Heart to Heart, an organization that sponsors children in need of life-saving heart surgery. • Rotary Clubs in District 5340 (California) have teamed on numerous projects both local and international. • Two district clubs found that their local De Anza Rescue Unit was operating with outdated facilities and equipment. Their partnership with The Rotary Foundation upgraded the unit’s equipment and capabilities to better serve the needs of the community. • Two other district 5340 clubs partnered with Water for South Sudan, Inc. to construct 20 water wells serving nearly 60,000 people in remote villages.

  12. Rotary Foundation Grants • So far this Rotary year, District 5340 has carried out 29 district grant projects sponsored by 31 clubs, with funding ranging from $600 to $65,000. District Foundation committee chair Pamela Russell says the grants offer several advantages, including a more streamlined application process and the flexibility to tailor projects to local and global needs.  • “We had never used district grant money for local [projects] before, and that is so exciting for the clubs,” says Russell, who is also a past district governor. “We’re also seeing an increase in giving to the Foundation, because of the opportunities for Rotarians to use district grant money in their own communities.”

  13. The Rotary Foundationcloser to home • Our club obtained Rotary Foundation grants to sponsor the Dolly Parton Imagination Library two years in a row. • We utilized grant funding to construct the water garden at the city park at the Cornerstone development.

  14. How Funding Works

  15. A donation is processed as follows: • By holding the donation for 3 years, the interest earned pays for TRF administration. • At the end of the 3 years, 50% of the donation is allocated to TRF World Fund (used to support GSE, Matching Grants, Individual Grants, Peace Scholars) and 50% is allocated to the District Designated Fund. • The District Designated Fund is then split with 20% being allocated to District Simplified Grants and 80% for other Club and District projects (including Matching Grants). • Through District Simplified Grants, 10% of all Annual Fund contributions are returned to the Clubs/District for local projects. • Matching Grants are used for both local and international projects.

  16. The Rotary Foundation • Recognition for Individuals includes: • Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member (annual contribution of $100 to TRF) • Paul Harris Fellow Recognition ($1,000 in contributions to TRF) • Recognition for Clubs: • 100% Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member Club Banner (awarded annually) • Every Rotarian, Every Year banner (awarded annually) • Top Three Annual Programs Fund Per Capita Club banners (per district, awarded annually) • 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club banner (upon request)

  17. Recognition Levels • Dollars and “points” can be combined to reach recognition levels. • For every $500 contributed, 100 points are earned. These points cannot be used by the contributing Rotarian, but can be given away to another member. The contributing Rotarian can, however, receive points from another contributing Rotarian. • Example: A member who is at a recognition level of 800 could contribute $100 and receive matching (donated) points of 100 for a total new recognition level of 1,000 (qualifying for Paul Harris Fellow recognition). *In order to maximize the point sharing, contributions to The Rotary Foundation should be paid by check and given to the Foundation Chair so the appropriate paperwork can be submitted.

  18. The Rotary Foundation • Our Club’s main goal in regards to TRF is to have 100% Sustaining Members (each Club member gives at least $100 to TRF annually). This automatically qualifies us for the Every Rotarian, Every Year banner as well. In addition, our Club has qualified for being one of the Top Three Annual Programs Fund Per Capita Club in the past. This is awarded annually per district.

  19. The Rotary Foundation • Please help our Club meet our Goals for 2012 – 2013 by making a contribution to The Rotary Foundation.
