  2. Overview Hearing loss that develops gradually as you age, known as presbycusis, is frequent. More than half of persons over the age of 75 in the United States have some degree of age-related hearing loss. Hearing loss is classified into three types: • The outer or middle ear is involved in conductive hearing. • Sensorineural refers to the inner ear. • Mixed, which is a combination of the two.

Symptoms of Hearing Loss  • Speech and other sounds are muffled. • Words are difficult to grasp, especially in a crowd or a noisy environment. • Having difficulty hearing the letters of the alphabet that aren't vowels. • Frequently requesting that others speak more slowly, clearly, and loudly. • Turning up the volume on the television or radio. • Avoiding certain social situations. • Background noise is bothering me.
