  1. QuickBooks errors H101, H202, H303, and H505 This article provides solutions to QuickBooks errors H101, H202, H303, and H505 that occur when opening the company file. When one of these error codes occurs, QuickBooks fails to connect to the company file and can’t connect with the server. Causes of QuickBooks Error:  The hosting configuration settings are wrong: Hosting is perhaps switched on in another computer, even though hosting should only be turned on in the server. The QuickBooks firewall ports have been set incorrectly: The firewall isn’t allowing communication with the company file; the .ND file might be damaged or incorrect. QB is unable to get the IP address of host computer: The QB Database Server Manager (DBSM) is using another/bad IP address. The DNS settings are wrong: The workstations have been configured to open the file via the hosts’ Full Qualified Domain Name, such as computername.domain.com. QB services haven’t been started: the QuickBooksDBXX or QBCFMonitor services aren’t running and must be started automatically.     Solution 1: Using the QB File Doctor: The QB File Doctor must be downloaded and run on the server any workstation that has an H-series error. The File Doctor will automatically attempt to fix the multi-user error. Solution 2: Checking hosting and services: Hosting must only be enabled in the server in a multi-user environment. Verifying hosting: Users can do this without opening any company file. 1: Users must open QB and select File -> Utilities on every workstation, except the server. 2: If Host Multi-user Access is on the list, the current computer isn’t hosting the company file and users should try the next computer. Users mustn’t change anything if Host Multi-User Access in a workstation. 3: If Stop Hosting Multi-user Access is seen, users must choose that option. 4: All the above steps must be repeated on every computer.

  2. Verifying QB services:  In multi-user mode, QB services (QuickbooksDBXX and QBCFMonitorService) must run on the server computer. After pressing Windows + R, type “services.msc” in the Run box and press Enter. Users can also find “services.msc” from the Windows search bar. Next, users must scroll down the services window and find QuickBooksDBXX service; XX denotes the year of QB Desktop that is being fixed for the problem.   If QuickBooksDBXX service isn’t seen:  Users must double-click on QuickBooksDBXX service and ensure that Startup Type has been set to Automatic and the service status is Running or Started. Then, choose the Recovery tab. Now, choose the drop-dwon for First Failure and then choose restart the Service, which will restart QuickBooksDB service automatically if it fails. This should be done for second and successive failures. Next, choose OK to save changes. Now, repeat all the above steps for verifying QB services for QBCFMonitorService as well. Next, QB must be opened in multi-user mode in every affected computer. If the error occurs again, it must be ensured that QuickBooksDBXX service is part of the admin group and has the necessary permissions.    The steps mentioned below should only be taken while running Windows 2012 Server Essentials: 1: The Base Filtering Engine Service must be stopped, which will stop active remote session/s to the server. 1.First, press Windows + R, which will open the Runwindow. 2.Type services.msc, and press Enter. 3.Next, right-click onBase Filtering Engine Service. 4.Now, select Stop. In case an error occurs, it must be dismissed and the service stopped. 2: The QB File Directory with the QB Database Server Manager must be scanned. 1.Go to Start > All Programs > QuickBooks > QuickBooks Database Server Manager. 2.Now, choose the Scan folders tab. 3.Next, choose Add folder (if there are no folders). Else, the folder with the files must be highlighted; then choose Scan. 4.Once the process is over, the Database Server Manager must be closed.

  3. 3: The Base Filtering Service (BFE) must be started. 1.Press Windows + R for opening the Run window. 2.Type services.msc, and press Enter. 3.Now, right-click on the Base Filtering Engine Service. 4.Select Start. If there’s an error occurs, it must be dismissed and the service stopped. 4: If the problem wasn’t resolved, users must refer to resources on “Multi-user access changes I QB Desktop 2016 and later versions: Windows Firewall must be started after BFE services have been re-enabled After pressing Windows + R, type “services.msc” and press Enter. Then, scroll down the Services window to the Windows Firewall service and then double-click on Windows Firewall. If Firewall isn’t running, choose Start. Solution 3: Opening the network ports used by QB for transmitting data NOTE: If AVG AntiVirus 2013 or AVG Antivirus 2013 Free is used on Windows 8 and H202 error occurs, the AVG program must be uninstalled and Windows Defender (built into Windows 8)enabled. Configuring firewall: These steps must be completed on every computer. 1.The Windows firewall settings must be accessed. 1.After right-clicking on the Windows logo, choose Control Panel. 2.Then, type “Firewall” and press Enter. 3.Now, choose Windows Firewall, followed by advanced settings. 2.Next, right-click Outbound Rules tot the left and then select New Rule. 3.Now, select Ports, followed by Next. 4.Next, choose TCP andenter the given ports in the appropriate local ports box: 1.QuickBooks Desktop 2018: 8019, 56728, 55378-55382 2.QuickBooks Desktop 2017: 8019, 56727, 55373-55377 3.QuickBooks Desktop 2016: 8019, 56726, 55368-55372 5.Now, choose next, followed by Allow the Connection. 6.Then, choose Next for entering a name in the name section (example: “QuickBooks ports”) and choose Finish. 7.Steps 1-5 above must be repeated for the Inbound Rules. 8.Then, QuickBooks must be reopened in multi-user mode. NOTE:  If users have third-party anti-virus/firewall installed, they might have to configure any other firewall or anti-virus. As a temporary fix, the firewall/anti-virus can be disabled for identifying if it’s the problem and then re- enable it later. If the error recurs, users should move to the next step below. 

  4. Checking UNC vs Mapped drive (for fixing file path): -As the steps are very technical, users should seek an IT expert’s help. This test is for checking if QB can connect with the server from the workstation/s. -Before beginning, the following must be checked:   The network discovery must be turned on. The name of the server must be known. -After pressing Windows + R, type ping [server name] and then press Enter. A reply should be visible for each packet without any packet being lost. If there’s a packet loss or the reply is slow, the network should be checked by an IT expert. -If a mapped drive is used for connecting to the company file on the server, the mapped drive must be bypassed by going to the server shared folder through the UNC (Universal Name Convention) path from the workstation. Example: \\server\QBData\. In case the company file oath is on the network and starts with a drive letter, it is a mapped drive. -Next, the UNC path, which is found in the title bar, must be used for going to the company file in QB. Solution 4: Adding the server to the Windows hosts file:  To do this, the Windows hosts file might have to be edited. Solution 5: Creating a new folder for the company file:  A new folder must be created in the host computer, which must then be shared. Then, folder and Windows access permissions must be set up for sharing company files. If there’s no access to the file server, and IT expert must be contacted. Next, the .qbw file must be copied to the new folder. Then, the company file must be re-opened in multi-user mode. If users aren’t sure about completing some of the steps and need more information, they should call our QuickBooks Technical Support Team at the toll-free number +1-844-313-4856 
