  1. 113MCTask 1 Magazine Show Comparison

  2. The Shows • The One Show • BBC1, 7pm, Week Nights • The Gadget Show • Five, 8pm, Mondays

  3. Content • General Magazine show. • Runs for 30 minutes • Mixture of Studio and VT’s • A group of presenters who specialise in a certain area. • Has 2 hosts, 1 Male, 1 Female • Have a guest each show • Specialised Magazine show focusing on gadgets and technology • Runs for 60 minutes • Mixture of Studio and VT’s • VT’s show testing of gadgets and weekly challenge between hosts • Has 4 hosts, 3 Male, 1 Female • Rarely have guests

  4. Titles • A mixture of colours to create a tone for the show. Possibly to show the variety of show • Stylized version of the “One” logo so that viewers get glimpses of the title • Music is jazzy with horn segments which is fairly neutral. Not alienating anyone • A mixture of coloured tunnels that move towards clips of past shows • It’s the presenters that you recognise as opposed to the logo • Generic production music with an electro slant to reflect the technology that the show is about

  5. Set • Colour scheme red to give a warm feeling to the show. • Sofas to make things look comfortable. • Coffee table to put props on for guests. • Modern and clean look. • Backdrop of calm London, not the busy one viewers expect. Makes people understand its broadcasted live. • White and modern, matches the gadgets. • No back to the sofas, very “bachelor” • A wall of gadgets so viewers know exactly what they’re watching. • A TV that can be used to go into VT’s

  6. Presentation • Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley. • Having a presenter of either gender makes it accessible to a wide range of people as they wont feel alienated due to lack of gender representation. • Very informal and chatty. • Friends having a chat. • Suzi Perry, Jason Bradury, Jon Bently, OrtisDeley • Mostly male presenters as technology is a very male interest. Having a single female presenter makes it more accessible to female viewers who can get a female point of view of the gadgets. • Each presenter has a “role”. Excitable, Knowledgeable, Posh and the “straight one” to bounce jokes off.

  7. Audience • Audience will be a general audience who want an easy programme to watch with not too much thinking • Possibly not an audience that will always make a point to sit down watch, but by appealing to everyone they can attract anyone not watching something else. • Will be an audience that will make a point to sit down and watch the show • The hosts will relate to the audience • Audience will be interested in the specific theme of the show so will be a near guaranteed audience.

  8. Comparison • As a general evening entertainment show it covers all bases, appealing to a range of audiences that don’t want anything too heavy to begin their evening of entertainment . • The hosts make it a jealous friendly atmosphere and the whole point of the show is to appeal to as wide a range of people as possibly. The neutral set and title sequence all encapsulate that. • Has a specific theme running through the shows concentrating on gadgets and technology. • The set, titles, presenters all reflect that and are all apart of the feeling created for the show.
