  1. How to Lead So People Will Follow

  2. Jesus Invited Mento Follow Him • Matthew 4:18-20 “And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him.”

  3. Jesus’ Leaders Need to Invite Others to Follow Them • 1 Corinthians 11:1 “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.” • Hebrews 13:7 “Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct.”

  4. Jesus’ Leaders Need to Invite Others to Follow Them • 1 Peter 5:1-3 “The elders who are among you I exhort, I who am a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that will be revealed: Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.”

  5. Jesus Was a Servant • John 16:4-5, 12-17 “So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, ‘Do you know what I have done to you? You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.”

  6. Jesus Was a Servant • Matthew 23:11 “But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant.” • Philippians 2:5-8 “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.”

  7. Jesus Did the Father’s Will • John 4:34 • John 6:38 • John 7:16 • John 8:25-29 • John 9:4 • John 12:44-45, 48-50 • John 15:15b

Jesus Was Compassionate • He cares for our physical needs. • Matthew 14:14 (Compassion, or splanchnidzomai–to be moved as to one’s inwards, the seat of love and pity) • Matthew 15:32-38 Fed 4,000 with 7 loaves & few fish • Even our need for touch • Matthew 20:29-34 Two blind men outside Jericho • Mark 1:14 Touched a leper • Luke 10:37b “Go and do likewise.”

And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.”

  14. Jesus Was Forgiving • Matthew 6:14-15 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” • Luke 23:34 “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”
