The environment provides food, water, and shelter. Different living things require different habitats according to their needs. Their white fur helps them hide on the ice when hunting seals and their large, webbed paws help them swim long distances. Thick fur and a layer of blubber keeps them warm in the cold, harsh climate. An animal’s habitat can be quite large. Pacific humpback whales live in warm Hawaiian waters and the frigid waters of Alaska. Listen to how the humpbacks communicate.
