  9. Questionnaire : 9th- & 10th grade. The presentation Consumption/ Waste – the main points 1. Are you interested in environmental issues? 2. Do you think it´s important to preserve nature? 3. Do you sometimes wonder from where we get the material to make products (e.g. the material cell phones are made of, plastic in plastic bottles, etc.)? 4. Do you want waste to be sorted in Laugalaekjarschool? 10. Are you worried about climate change and the effects it has on Earth? Yes 46% No 29% Don´t know 25% We are using Earth´s resources faster than they can be replenished. Humanity´s ecological footprint is estimated at 1.5 Earths. We are “borrowing” resources from future generations, polluting heavily and putting pressure on tipping points in the natural system. The law of conservation of mass tells us that waste remains on Earth. In the natural world the waste of one organism become nutrient for other organims. Yes 97% No 0% Don´t know 3% Humans, on the other hand, produce enormous amounts of waste that nature can´t recycle and therefore it pollutes the environment. Yes 52% No 40% Don´t know 8% We can´t “pay the loan” unless we live sustainably: Don´t use Earth´s resources faster than it can produce them. Lets use Earth´s resources wisely, that is, without preventing people in the future from using them. But we can, with cooperation, good will and creativity reduce waste production. Yes 70% No 20% Don´t know 10% Yes 81% No 4% Don´t know 15% Environm. friendly Laugal.school: Suggestions from students -Use towels in lavatories instead of paper tissues -More efficient e-teaching/stop printing home assignments -Bring food without packaging in a lunch box -Use eco-friendly cleaning products instead of the chemical now being used -Save electricity/turn computers and lights off -Sort waste/more bins -More education/environm. Science classes -Pick up garbage on the school zone once a month -Use garbage to make art in art class -Get credits for walking or cycling to school -Collection competition (cans &bottles) between classes Yes 56% No 38% Don´t know 6% Yes 55% No 45% Don´t know 5% Yes 96% No 2% Don´tknow 2% Yes 52% No 11% Don´t know 37% Yes 60% No 15% Don´t know 25%
