  4. Transformation Change in Functional Teams- TLD: National Couches- Dev: Menil- CAP: Bayou City- IR: Big Kitchen

  5. New Team Members/New Roles- Dellareese Lightbourne- Jessica Texada- Jessica Condelee- CAP Team Additions

  6. Regional Vision Update

  7. Vision Working Group: Work To Date • Community Feedback Team • Tasked with: Begin speaking to 2-4 specific communities regarding what they want and our vision draft (thoughts on language, reactions, and strategy ideas) • Highlights of work since forming: • Determined criteria for potentially selecting focused communities • Strategically identified two communities to have initial conversations • Planned and executedGulfton forum in conjunction with NCI to get feedback on vision draft • Planning Team • Tasked with:Create long term plan for next 5-8 years, with more detail in 1st year TFA-specifc strategies • Highlights of work since forming: • Created long term timeline of how we focus changes to our approach • Determined several different strategy scenarios (like focus neighborhoods vs. city-wide placement vs. feeder patterns) • Identified non-negotiables:TAL teachers, leadership development of corps

Vision Working Group: Work To Date • Landscape Analysis Team • Tasked with: Gather additional research to support Academic Strength and Cultural & Identity Security • Highlights of work since forming: • Did academic research using scholarly databases. • Found quantitative and qualitative studies – particularly action research projects done on culture and identity in the classroom • Gathered data from local resources like HISD demographics and Children at Risk scores • Writing Team • Tasked with:  Decide on final language of the vision statement and define what those terms mean • Highlights of work since forming: • Clarified the 5 main ideas of vision statement • Created multiple drafts of vision to capture those main ideas

In pursuit of educational justice for all, we act to ensure that Houston’s students are equipped with academic excellence, empowered by cultural strength, and grounded in their own identities so that they can successfully navigate societal structures, empower their communities and ultimately create more just systems of opportunity.

  11. Strategic Engagement Moving Forward 3 sub-groups aligned to 3 strands • Who: Folks with “skin in the game” + others with a strong interest • What: 1. Provide initial ideas and inputs 2. Validate analyses • When: Once in next 10 days + 1-2 times after Nov 22 • Commitment: 1) High touch: Attend in-person meetings; review work products 2) Low touch: Provide inputs/feedback via email Safal team to set up Google doc for sign ups
