Take out a sheet of paper and write out our starter for today • 9/9/13 • Draw the following map projections and label them on your paper. • Mercator • Polar (Azimuth) • Robinson Ms. Heather will be around in 5 minutes to check your answers for the day. Once Ms. Heather checks your answers, place the paper behind your “Starters” divider.

  3. Objectives (You will need another sheet of paper for this) • 9/9/13 • I will identify vocabulary words for the Beginnings of Man Unit (Unit I) • Once you have written this down, place the sheet behind your “Objectives” divider.

  4. (1) Code of Hammurabi • The first group of laws for Sumerians that had different punishments for rich and poor people, men and women.

  5. (2) Paleolithic Era • The cultural period of the Stone Age beginning with the earliest chipped stone tools until the beginning of the Mesolithic Period

  6. (3) Homo Sapiens • The modern species of humans

  7. (4) Hunter – Gatherer • A member of a people subsisting in the wild on food obtained by hunting and foraging

  8. (5) Artifacts • An object produced or shaped by human craft, especially a tool, weapon, or ornament of archaeological or historical interest

  9. (6) Phoenicians • An ancient maritime country of southwest Asia consisting of city-states along the eastern Mediterranean Sea in present-day Syria and Lebanon – mainly sailors!!!

  10. (7) Surplus • An amount of something left over when requirements have been met

  11. (8) POlytheism • The belief in many gods

  12. (9) Barter • Exchange (goods or services) for other goods or services without using money

  13. (10) Tyranny • Cruel and oppressive government or rule
